The operation, which was discovered after local residents reported persistent mechanical sounds emanating from the facility, is suspected of using unauthorized electricity from an adjacent hydroelectric complex. Investigators are probing potential money laundering activities through mined cryptocurrency, with possible connections to cartel operations.
This marks the fourth discovery of a mining facility in Puebla since early 2025, with authorities noting that significant electricity consumption and remote positioning triggered their interest.
