Mexican Police Bust Crypto Mining Operation with Possible Cartel Ties
Mexican authorities have cracked down on yet another crypto mining operation in Puebla. This time, they raided a hidden site in the town of Tlaola, where they found around 300 graphics cards used for mining cryptocurrency.
The raid involved federal prosecutors, the Mexican navy, and state security officers, who seized various equipment including a transformer, medium-voltage terminals, and satellite internet antennas. The setup was said to require significant technical skill and funding.
Investigations are ongoing to determine if the mined cryptocurrency was used to launder cartel proceeds. This is not an isolated incident, as three similar operations were discovered in the same region last year. Local officials are now collaborating with neighboring states to search for more hidden mining farms.
