Mexico Seizes Suspected Crypto Mining Facility with 300 GPUs
Mexican authorities have seized a suspected cryptocurrency mining facility in Tlaola, a municipality in Puebla's Sierra Norte region. The operation involved the Mexican Navy, Puebla state authorities, and the Federal Attorney General's Office.
The facility contained around 300 custom-made computers, also referred to as GPUs by some officials, along with a pedestal-mounted transformer, 80 medium-voltage terminals, and eight satellite internet antennas for connectivity. The authorities are investigating suspected electricity theft and possible money laundering.
While the operation was not linked to any specific cartel, it is part of a broader investigation into criminal financing. Cryptocurrency mining is not illegal in Mexico, but stealing electricity is a crime.
