Mexico Shuts Down Massive Crypto Mining Operation

Share

Authorities in Mexico have dismantled a massive cryptocurrency mining operation that allegedly stole electricity from a federal hydroelectric complex. The facility, discovered in Tlaola, Puebla, contained around 300 specialized computers used for mining.

The operation was reportedly connected to the Nuevo Necaxa hydroelectric dam's infrastructure and had been stealing electricity. Authorities seized transformers, medium-voltage equipment, approximately 300 computing units, and working satellite internet antennas during the raid.

Investigations are ongoing to determine whether similar mining farms exist in the region. In fact, Mexican authorities have dismantled three other cryptocurrency mining operations around Puebla and neighboring Tlaxcala since 2025.
