Mexico Suspects Sought Bitcoin Wallet in Quadruple Homicide

Two suspects, Diego Sebastián and Gerardo (last names withheld), are accused of quadruple homicide in Mexico. The victims were Jonathan Meléndez, a keyboardist for rock band Camilo Séptimo, his pregnant wife, their daughter, and an employee. According to authorities, the motive was to obtain access to a cold wallet believed to hold millions of dollars in Bitcoin.

The suspects used violence to gain entry into the family's home in Atizapán de Zaragoza. If convicted, they could face 25 to 70 years in prison per homicide victim, according to prosecutors.

A business associate of one of the victims allegedly used their relationship to enter the property. This is part of a larger trend known as crypto wrench attacks, where physical force or threats are used to obtain cryptocurrency or access to wallets.
