Miami Resident Pleads Guilty to Leading Cryptocurrency Heist
A Miami resident and Singaporean citizen has pleaded guilty to leading an international group that stole hundreds of millions of dollars in cryptocurrency.
Malone Lam, also known online as 'Anne Hathaway,' '$$$' or 'King Greavy,' admitted to participating in a conspiracy under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. He faces up to 20 years in prison.
The group of at least 16 people from California, Connecticut, New York, Florida, and abroad used social engineering tactics to steal cryptocurrency. They tricked victims into revealing sensitive information such as passwords, allowing them to access and steal their funds.
The stolen money was used for lavish spending, including nightclub services costing up to $500,000 per evening, luxury handbags worth tens of thousands of dollars, watches valued at $100,000 to $500,000, and private jet rentals. Lam's co-defendants had various roles within the group, including hacking websites and servers, purchasing databases on the dark web, and laundering stolen currency.
Lam was arrested in September 2025, but it is unclear how much of the cryptocurrency remains to be recovered. The plot began in October 2023 and continued through May 2025.
