MiCA-Approved Firms Surge Past 300 in Europe
Europe has seen significant growth in its crypto market with over 300 MiCA-approved firms now registered. According to an analysis of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) database, there are currently 323 distinct crypto-asset service providers (CASPs). This number represents a substantial increase from previous counts.
The majority of these entities have obtained licenses in Germany, with 69 out of 323 being based in this jurisdiction. France follows closely with 34 registered CASPs, while the Netherlands and Cyprus trail behind with 29 and 25 respectively. Malta rounds out the top five with 22 licensed firms.
Among the notable names on the list are major exchanges such as Coinbase, Kraken, OKX, Bybit, Crypto.com, Bitpanda, Bitstamp, Bitvavo, Robinhood, and WhiteBIT. The presence of traditional finance institutions is also evident, including BBVA, Commerzbank, DekaBank, DZ Bank, KBC, CACEIS, CaixaBank, BNY, Standard Chartered, N26, Trade Republic Bank and Scalable Capital Bank.
The dominance of custody services in the MiCA regime is striking, with 201 out of 323 entities holding this authorization. Transfer services follow closely at 193, while exchange of crypto-assets for fiat is authorized for 166, and order execution for 155. This suggests that MiCA's first regulated cohort is shifting from being primarily a collection of exchanges to an emerging financial-services infrastructure market.
