MiCA Deadline Lures Scammers into European Crypto Market

Share

The European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) has come into effect, marking a significant shift for the region's crypto market. The regulation requires all Crypto-Asset Service Providers (CASPs) to obtain a license or face closure. According to reports, only 323 companies have successfully obtained a MiCA license, while over 1,700 platforms are expected to cease operations.

The transition period under MiCA has created an opportunity for scammers to exploit users. Fake emails and text messages are being sent to customers, purporting to be from exchanges or regulatory bodies like ESMA. These messages often urge users to move their assets immediately via provided links or migration portals.

Regulators have warned that investors should never share seed phrases or private keys with anyone. They also advise verifying all communications through official websites of the exchange or licensed provider. As MiCA enters its full implementation phase, experts expect phishing campaigns to remain a primary risk for European crypto investors in the coming months.
