The European Union's MiCA regulation continues to shape the digital asset landscape as ESMA expands its crypto-asset service provider (CASP) registry to 309 licensed entities.

This marks the third update since the transition period ended on July 1, 2026. The latest additions include BNY SA/NV, a Belgian subsidiary of US banking giant BNY Mellon, and three German cooperative banks: Spar-und Kreditbank Rheinstetten, VR-Bank Augsburg-Ostallgäu, and Raiffeisenbank Falkenstein-Wörth.

The inclusion of these institutions reflects growing interest in regulated digital asset services among traditional financial players. BNY Mellon's involvement is particularly notable as it signals that established banks are expanding into crypto custody without operating in a legal gray area.
