Michigan Data Center Shifts from Crypto Mining to AI Infrastructure
Hyperscale Data has shut down Bitcoin mining at its Michigan data center, effective September 1. The move clears the facility for a California-based neocloud customer's AI deployment under a master services agreement.
The agreement covers an initial 20 megawatts with a 10-year term and two five-year extensions, estimated to generate over $1.2 billion if the maximum term is used. However, this figure could exceed $3 billion if the customer exercises their option for another 32 megawatts within two years.
The site has approximately 340 MW of power capacity, with the AI buildout using about 20% of that total. Hyperscale Data plans to sell mining servers but has not disclosed a buyer or price.
