Micron Employees Threaten Strike Over Bonus Disputes
Tensions are rising between Micron Technology and its Taiwan-based employees over bonus compensation. The labor unions at Micron's facilities in Taoyuan and Taichung, which cover nearly 10,000 workers, are preparing for potential strike action due to disagreements with the company's current Incentive Pay Plan.
The unions want a new framework that dedicates 15% of operating profits to worker bonuses, distributed quarterly starting in fiscal 2027. This proposal would translate to approximately 83 months of salary for each Taiwan-based employee, according to their calculations.
Micron defended its compensation strategy, noting that employee packages encompass base wages, yearly performance-based incentives, operational bonus programs, and equity participation options. The company emphasized that the current year's performance bonus distribution will exceed all previous records.
