Microstrategy Bolsters Liquidity Pool, Holds Onto Bitcoin Position
Microstrategy (MSTR) shares rose this week despite holding onto its Bitcoin position. The company generated $2 billion from selling 18.26 million shares between August 17 and 23, with most of it going into a liquidity pool.
Strategy used the proceeds to repurchase some of its preferred stock and add to its USD reserve, which now stands at $5.1 billion. The remaining $1.59 billion was put into a new liquidity account called USD Cash.
The move gives Strategy more flexibility without immediately increasing its Bitcoin holdings, which remained unchanged at 840,447 BTC following the latest reporting period.
Bitcoin rose nearly 25% last week to trade around $78,700 after coming near $80,000 on Monday. Strategy's shares gained about 7.2% on Monday before losing most of the gains and were trading 2.5% higher by the end of the week.
