MicroStrategy Ditches Aggressive Bitcoin Buying for Diversified Capital Management

MicroStrategy has undergone a significant shift in its corporate strategy, moving away from aggressive Bitcoin buying and adopting a more diversified capital management approach. On July 27, 2026, the company announced the rollout of its 'Digital Credit Capital Framework,' which aims to fortify its balance sheet through USD reserves, a 12% preferred dividend, and structured share repurchases.

The framework is part of a broader strategy to manage the company's capital stack, following a five-week pause in Bitcoin purchasing. This departure from aggressive crypto-buying has raised concerns among investors, particularly regarding the dilution resulting from recent common stock sales that added approximately 7.6 million new shares to the market.

The move is intended to provide a buffer for at least 22 months, with MicroStrategy's cash reserves now standing at around $3.75 billion. This liquidity will be used to service approximately $1.76 billion in annual obligations related to preferred shares and debt.
