MicroStrategy Halts Bitcoin Streak Amid Financial Strains
MicroStrategy, formerly known as Strategy, has paused its Bitcoin acquisition streak for five weeks. The company's 'flywheel' model, which relied on issuing equity to purchase more Bitcoin, is no longer sustainable due to its stock trading at a discount to net asset value.
The shift in strategy comes as the firm faces significant financial liabilities, including $1.76 billion in annual dividend payments and interest expenses. To mitigate this burden, MicroStrategy has maintained cash reserves of $3.75 billion, enough to cover 12 months of expected obligations.
The company's endorsement of the CLARITY Act aims to establish clearer regulatory frameworks for digital assets, potentially lowering its cost of capital and fostering institutional acceptance.
