MicroStrategy Resumes Bitcoin Buying Amid Ongoing Treasury Strategy Adjustments
MicroStrategy, one of the largest corporate Bitcoin holders, has announced plans to resume its BTC accumulation strategy later this year. According to CEO Phong Le, the company remains a net buyer despite recent strategic sales to cover financial obligations.
The company has acquired around 175,000 BTC since the beginning of the year, with an approximate balance of 840,000 BTC in its corporate treasury. This impressive figure positions it as the undisputed leader among publicly traded companies holding this cryptocurrency on their balance sheets, far surpassing other institutional players within the current financial ecosystem.
While MicroStrategy has historically maintained a policy of never selling, it has sold some of its assets four times since May to support preferred stock dividend payments, share buybacks, and strengthening its US dollar reserves. The recent sales, representing a small fraction of their total holdings at approximately 7,000 BTC, were executed to meet various corporate obligations.
The company's treasury model based on crypto assets faces new challenges when market conditions change, with regulatory clarity being vital for large-scale institutional adoption. Regulatory frameworks such as the MiCA Regulation in the European Union require that transactions be fully transparent and audited, allowing companies to manage their treasury operations with known and managed risk.
