MicroStrategy Sells Over $4 Billion of Bitcoin as it Shifts Focus
MicroStrategy's CEO Phong Le announced that the company may sell up to $5 billion in Bitcoin, significantly higher than its previous target of $1.25 billion.
This comes after a six-year period during which the company accumulated BTC en masse and only accelerated its purchases after the 2024 presidential elections in the US.
The company's total stash has grown exponentially to 843,775 units, but it has not made any new acquisitions for five consecutive weeks, instead increasing its cash reserve through fundraising activities.
Le stated that the company plans to sell Bitcoin for three reasons: to fund the U.S. dollar reserve up to $1.25 billion, to pay dividends and interest payments of $1.76 billion a year, and to fund up to $2 billion in common and preferred stock repurchases.
