Microstrategy Stock Rises as Company Holds Off on New Bitcoin Purchases
Microstrategy's stock jumped on Monday as the company revealed it had not purchased any Bitcoin for the fifth consecutive week. Instead of adding to its holdings, Microstrategy continued to build its cash reserves and repurchase preferred shares under a revised capital allocation strategy.
The company disclosed in a filing that it neither bought nor sold Bitcoin during the week ended July 26, leaving its holdings unchanged at 843,775 BTC. This pause in acquisitions marks the longest buying pause since Microstrategy adopted its Bitcoin treasury strategy last year.
As the company continued to prioritize liquidity over additional Bitcoin purchases, its stock gained as much as 6.8% to $97.88 on Monday, snapping a three-day losing streak. The move came as Bitcoin itself recovered, rising 0.17% over the past 24 hours to $64,576.
Microstrategy's decision to focus on building cash reserves is part of its revised capital allocation strategy, which also includes repurchasing preferred shares. The company has approximately $975 million remaining under its authorization to repurchase preferred shares and another $1 billion available for common stock buybacks.
