Millionaires May Soon Be priced out of Bitcoin Ownership due to Scarcity
Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) warns that millionaires may soon struggle to afford one full Bitcoin due to scarcity. In a recent X post, CZ responded to analyst Quinten Francois's observation that even with current supply levels, not all 23.6 million millionaires in the U.S. could own a full BTC.
Bitcoin's circulating supply reached approximately 20.071 million coins as of August 2026, leaving around 929,000 BTC before the 21 million maximum supply is reached. CZ noted that this scarcity would make it difficult for even wealthy individuals to afford one full coin.
CZ's comments come just weeks after he discussed cryptocurrency custody practices and the risks associated with self-custody compared to storing coins on exchanges.
