Millions of Micro-Payments on XRP Ledger, But No Significant Token Demand
The XRP Ledger has seen a surge in micro-payments thanks to an AI-payment hub, but this activity is not translating into significant demand for the token.
According to t54 labs' XRPL AI Hub dashboard, there have been almost 4.5 million transactions on the platform, with only a few thousand XRP being settled. This discrepancy has led some to question whether the hub's activity is driving demand for the token or simply facilitating frequent, tiny payments.
The hub allows software agents to use x402 payments for API calls, AI inference, and other digital services, enabling them to pay in XRP or RLUSD. The design of this system helps explain the numbers, as it is intended for small payments rather than significant token purchases.
XRPL transaction fees still require XRP, although they are destroyed rather than distributed to holders or validators. For the adoption argument to become more compelling for XRP holders, sustained token demand and significant settlement activity would be necessary, separate from market signals such as the bullish 66 out of 100 rating from CryptoSlate's price-based market signal.
