Miners Reject BIP-110 Soft Fork Amid Hasrate Imbalance
The proposed Bitcoin soft fork, BIP-110, has been met with significant resistance from miners. Despite its intention to restrict non-financial data in transactions for one year, the proposal failed to secure sufficient support from the mining community. In fact, Simple Mining rejected BIP-110 even before the minority chain fully stalled.
The miner, which uses Ocean's DATUM protocol, produced block 961,634 on Bitcoin's main chain without signaling support for the proposal. This decision is striking given that Ocean had supported BIP-110 by default, allowing miners to choose independently whether to signal for the proposal.
Support for BIP-110 peaked at around 2.6% of hashrate, far below the 55% threshold required for mandatory signaling rules to take effect. The minority branch produced only two blocks before stalling, while Bitcoin's main chain continued to add blocks at its normal rhythm.
