Mining Companies Flip Script on AI
Bitcoin mining companies are transforming their business models to focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing, according to CoinShares. By year-end, AI-related revenue is predicted to account for 70% of total revenue.
This shift in focus is driven by the halving effect that occurred in April 2024, which reduced block rewards from 6.25 Bitcoin to 3.125 Bitcoin and contracted mining profit margins.
Data compiled by Woofun AI shows that AI-related revenue was only 30% at the beginning of 2025 but has doubled within a few months as companies repurpose their existing infrastructure for AI tasks.
The commercial scale of this transformation is significant, with total AI-related contract values sometimes exceeding $70 billion from cloud service providers and AI ventures.
