Mirae Asset Aims for $108 Billion in Digital Assets by 2027
Mirae Asset Group has unveiled its ambitious plan to grow its digital asset business to $108 billion by 2027. The company, which acquired a majority stake in Digital X (formerly Korbit) earlier this year, aims to build the digital asset unit around four main areas: cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, real-world assets, and security token offerings.
According to Mirae Asset Group Chairman and Global Strategy Officer Park Hyeon-joo, the group will make Digital X a key pillar of its 'Mirae Asset 3.0' strategy. The company plans to digitize physical assets such as gold, silver, and electricity, and develop products tied to blockchain-based finance.
Park said that the group's first target is to grow the digital asset sector to $150 trillion won (approximately $108 billion) and achieve profitability in 2027. Mirae Asset will also work with Digital X to develop financial products and services that can operate through blockchain networks, while using principal investment to support its digital asset operations.
The company's tokenized securities plans are being developed as South Korea prepares a legal framework for blockchain-issued securities. The Financial Services Commission has said that detailed rules will be prepared for the country's tokenized securities framework ahead of amendments to the Capital Markets Act and Electronic Securities Act taking effect on February 4, 2027.
