Mirae Asset Aims for $109 Billion Crypto Empire with Digital X
Mirae Asset, a South Korean financial group, is building a massive digital asset business centered around Digital X, the rebranded Korbit exchange. The ambitious plan aims to create a $109 billion industry around Digital X, which will focus on trading cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, and security token offerings.
The expansion follows Mirae Asset Consulting's acquisition of a 97.15% stake in Korbit in July for a total of 141.4 billion won. Founded in 2013, Korbit was South Korea's first cryptocurrency exchange but accounted for only 0.5% of the country's trading market by 2025.
Mirae Asset founder and chairman Park Hyeon-joo emphasized that Digital X will be a core pillar of 'Mirae Asset 3.0'. To boost user engagement, the exchange has introduced zero-fee trading for won-denominated assets until August 24, 2027.
