Mirae Asset Aims for $109 Billion Digital Asset Business
Mirae Asset, a South Korean financial group, has set its sights on building a massive digital asset business worth $109 billion. The company plans to develop its operations around four areas: cryptocurrency, stablecoins, real-world assets, and security token offerings.
At the heart of this strategy is Digital X, formerly known as Korbit, which Mirae Asset acquired in July for 141.4 billion won (approximately $109 million). The exchange has been rebranded under its new ownership and will serve as a central part of Mirae Asset's next growth strategy.
Mirae Asset plans to tokenize assets such as gold, silver, and electricity, with the goal of making Digital X a core pillar of 'Mirae Asset 3.0' by 2027. The company aims to make its digital asset operations profitable by that year and has set a target of reaching $109 billion in its digital asset business.
The scale of this target is significant, considering Korbit controlled only 0.5% of South Korea's cryptocurrency trading market in 2025. Mirae Asset's acquisition of Digital X gives the exchange access to capital, financial infrastructure, and an established client base that it did not previously have.
