Mirae Asset Unveils $109 Billion Digital Asset Plan for Digital X
Mirae Asset, one of South Korea's largest financial groups, is planning to expand its digital asset business into a major platform worth $109 billion. The company aims to achieve this through Digital X, the renamed exchange formerly known as Korbit, which it acquired control of in July with a 97.15% stake.
The reported roadmap for Digital X spans various categories, including cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, real-world assets (RWAs), and security token offerings. The company plans to tokenize physical assets such as gold, silver, and electricity, marking an ambitious move into the digital-asset market.
This strategic shift follows Mirae Asset Consulting's acquisition of Korbit, making it a notable first in South Korea: an affiliate of a financial group gaining control of a domestic crypto exchange. The acquisition comes with a built-in challenge, as Digital X will need to grow its relatively small footprint into a larger platform capable of supporting both trading activity and longer-horizon tokenization products.
To attract liquidity, Digital X began waiving trading fees for won-denominated assets on Monday, with the zero-fee period scheduled to run through August 24, 2027. The exchange's fee policy page lists the promotion and its coverage, including the won-denominated trading pairs the offer applies to.
