Mirae Asset Unveils Ambitious Digital-Asset Expansion Plans with $109 Billion Platform
Mirae Asset, one of South Korea's largest financial groups, is expanding its digital-asset business with a significant investment in Digital X, a domestic crypto exchange. The group aims to build a 150 trillion won ($109 billion) platform centered on Digital X, which will operate across cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, real-world assets (RWAs), and security token offerings.
The roadmap for Digital X includes plans to tokenize physical assets such as gold, silver, and electricity. This move follows Mirae Asset Consulting's acquisition of a 97.15% stake in Korbit earlier this year, positioning the traditional finance group as a direct operator of a domestic crypto exchange.
Despite its long history, Korbit represented only 0.5% of South Korea's crypto trading market in 2025, according to the Fair Trade Commission. Mirae Asset is framing Digital X as a growth engine rather than a passive investment, with an initial goal of making it a core pillar of 'Mirae Asset 3.0.'
The exchange has begun waiving trading fees across all won-denominated assets, with the zero-fee period scheduled to run through August 24, 2027. This move aims to attract liquidity and improve overall market participation.
