Mirae Asset Waives Fees for a Year at Digital X Exchange
Mirae Asset Group is making a bold move in South Korea's cryptocurrency market by waiving all trading fees for a year at its Digital X exchange. This aggressive push aims to challenge the dominance of market leaders Upbit and Bithumb, which together control the bulk of Korean retail crypto trading.
Digital X will waive trading fees for 12 months, a move aimed squarely at pulling volume away from Upbit and Bithumb. The fee waiver is part of Mirae Asset's broader digital-finance push, with the exchange planning to raise $145 million to $217 million in fresh capital by next year.
Mirae Asset completed its acquisition of Korbit earlier this year after South Korea's antitrust watchdog cleared the country's first takeover of a crypto exchange by a financial conglomerate affiliate. The rebranded Digital X now has institutional credibility, giving it a balance-sheet advantage over smaller rivals.
