Sylwester Suszek, a founder of BitBay, disappeared in March 2022 from a fuel depot in southern Poland. His last known whereabouts were at a meeting organized by his business partner, Marian Wszolek, where he arrived in a Porsche Taycan.

Wszolek was later charged with involvement in an organized crime group, and Suszek's family received desperate messages from him, including one threatening to cut off his fingers. His body has not been found since then.

The company was taken over by Przemyslaw Kral, who claimed in a video message on April 16 that the exchange had over $330 million worth of Bitcoin, but he did not know how to access it because only Suszek knew the digital key.
