Mississippi Residents Protest SpaceXAI Data Center Buildout Over Noise, Pollution Concerns
A massive data center buildout in Southaven, Mississippi, tied to SpaceXAI is causing concerns among residents about noise and air pollution.
The project, which includes 69 gas turbines, has sparked complaints from neighbors who say the constant noise is affecting their quality of life and worsening health issues such as asthma. Krystal Polk, a 52-year-old farmer whose family has owned land in the area for four generations, likened the sound to being boxed in by planes heading for an airport.
The NAACP is pursuing legal action against SpaceXAI's subsidiary MZX Tech, alleging negligence around air and noise impacts. A community petition has gathered over 1,400 signatures, with residents calling for stronger environmental practices.
