Missouri Men Charged in Violent CT Carjacking Over Crypto Heist
Three men from Missouri have been charged in connection with a violent carjacking and kidnapping that occurred in Danbury, Connecticut in August 2024. The incident was allegedly over cryptocurrency.
The suspects were recruited to help steal hundreds of millions of dollars in Bitcoin, but their plan went awry when they were unable to obtain the funds quickly enough. According to court records, between August 21 and 24, 2024, the men obtained rental vehicles and supplies, including air rifles and walkie-talkies, and stalked their target and his parents for two days.
The indictment alleges that the suspects' frustration with the plan and a lack of communication led them to leave Connecticut before another crew from Florida arrived to carry out the plan. On May 22, a grand jury returned a second superseding indictment charging Louis, Davis, and Williams with conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery.
The investigation has been conducted by the FBI New Haven Violent Crimes Task Force, FBI Los Angeles, FBI St. Louis, and the Danbury Police Department. The suspects have pleaded not guilty and are being held in detention pending trial.
