Mistral and HUMAIN Join Forces on Sovereign AI in Saudi Arabia
Mistral, a Paris-based open-weights lab, is teaming up with HUMAIN, an AI company owned by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), to build 'sovereign AI infrastructure' in Saudi Arabia and the wider region.
The collaboration, valued at hundreds of millions of euros, aims to develop and localize advanced models and deploy AI solutions within the kingdom and region. The partnership is designed to meet growing demand for sovereign AI, where data is not controlled by third-party companies and models can be owned on open weights.
Mistral will explore running workloads on HUMAIN's Saudi data-center capacity instead of relying solely on European and American infrastructure. This move extends Mistral's compute position through its end-to-end infrastructure arm, Mistral Compute.
