Monad Proposes Post-Quantum Security Upgrade for Wallets
Monad is pushing forward with a strategic overhaul of its wallet mechanism to support passkeys and post-quantum security. The Ethereum-compatible blockchain, which raised $225 million in a round led by Paradigm in 2024, has submitted a proposal to decouple a permanent account address from the keys that control it.
This change would eliminate the need for users to create a new wallet and transfer all assets if they lose their private key. Instead, accounts could upgrade to quantum-resistant schemes without changing their address.
The proposal, authored by Kushal Babel and Jan Camenisch, aims to offer natively post-quantum accounts, social recovery, and user-friendly schemes such as passkeys. The network holds nearly $939 million in DeFi applications, according to DefiLlama data.
