Monad Tackles Lost Keys with Address-Auth Method Split
Monad, an Ethereum-compatible layer-one blockchain, has proposed a wallet upgrade to address a long-standing pain point in crypto: lost private keys. The community proposal aims to separate wallet addresses from authentication methods, allowing users to replace lost or outdated keys without moving assets or changing addresses.
The proposed system would keep the wallet's address constant while rotating or upgrading the underlying signing keys. This means users could adopt passkeys, add multiple signers, or implement account recovery features without transferring holdings to a new wallet.
Monad's plan also anticipates future integration of quantum-resistant cryptography, a proactive step as quantum computing advances. If approved, the upgrade would reduce the risk of permanent fund loss and enhance both usability and security for users.
