MoneyGram Card Lands in Colombia with Stablecoin Spending Power
MoneyGram has launched its MoneyGram Card in Colombia, marking the first country to receive the stablecoin-backed card. The card allows customers to spend their dollar-denominated balance directly from the MoneyGram app, and can also be loaded into Apple Wallet or Google Wallet for tap-to-pay purchases.
The MoneyGram Card is a spending layer on top of an existing dollar corridor, leveraging MoneyGram's extensive network of over 200 countries and territories through nearly 500,000 retail locations. The company serves over 60 million active customers, with more than 70% of its transactions now digital.
Colombia was chosen as the first market due to its significant remittance inflows, receiving a record $13.098 billion in 2025. MoneyGram's existing stack includes Stellar and USDC, which powers its Colombia app balance. The company has also launched its own stablecoin, MGUSD, on Stellar in June 2026.
