MoneyGram Debuts USDC Visa Card in Colombia Powered by Stellar
MoneyGram has launched a new virtual USDC Visa card in Colombia, powered by Stellar. The card allows users to spend USDC at retailers and access mobile wallets for contactless payments.
The pilot was conducted with fintech firm Rain and crypto infrastructure provider Crossmint. Users can access the card through the MoneyGram app after completing identity verification.
The system converts USDC into Colombian pesos automatically for settlement, leveraging Stellar's blockchain infrastructure for fast transactions.
Crossmint handles wallet custody for the service, and MoneyGram plans to add its MGUSD stablecoin, which runs on Stellar.
MoneyGram sees stablecoin payments as a potential bridge between remittances and daily spending. The company plans to introduce physical cards by the end of 2026, supporting ATM withdrawals and expanding across Latin America.
