MoonPay Bags EMI License from Dutch Central Bank
MoonPay has secured an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license from the Dutch Central Bank, expanding its regulatory position in Europe. This new authorization allows MoonPay to offer payment accounts and related services to consumers and businesses, as well as issue stablecoins.
The EMI license is a significant development for MoonPay, which has been working towards establishing itself as a major player in the European crypto market. The company already holds a Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) authorization, but this new license adds a key layer of regulatory approval to its operations.
MoonPay's CEO was quoted as saying that the EMI authorization represents an expansion of their existing regulatory position, rather than the launch of a finished product. The company has not provided release dates or pricing details for its stablecoin products.
