MoonPay Brings Non-Custodial Payment Vault to ChatGPT and Claude

MoonPay has introduced PayBox, a non-custodial payment vault that allows users of ChatGPT and Claude to make transactions without leaving the chat window. The product currently supports Solana, Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Polygon, Hyperliquid, Tempo, and Robinhood Chain networks.

PayBox uses multi-party computation (MPC) to split wallet keys across hardware-isolated trusted execution environments, making it impossible for MoonPay or the AI agent alone to sign a transaction. This setup ensures secure transactions and protects users' funds.

The product also supports card payments through Visa's agentic commerce protocol, allowing users to charge their cards without exposing underlying numbers. PayBox has two permission modes: 'Always Ask,' which requires passkey approval for every transaction, and 'Autonomous,' which permits the assistant to transact within user-set limits.

MoonPay Labs chief engineer Neeraj Prasad presented PayBox as a deliberate answer to closed systems built by larger companies. The company plans to extend PayBox further into DeFi protocols with user-defined approval rules applying throughout.
