MoonPay Wins EMI License for Stablecoin Issuance in Europe
MoonPay has obtained an Electronic Money Institution license from the Dutch Central Bank, giving it permission to offer payment accounts and related services in Europe.
The company says this authorization is an expansion of its existing regulatory position and not a launch of a new product. It will now be able to issue stablecoins, allowing for euro-denominated tokens that can circulate beyond a single merchant or platform.
MoonPay has described itself as the third Netherlands-based business to hold both a Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) authorization and an EMI license within one entity. It claims to be the first to combine these licenses with open-loop stablecoin issuance capabilities.
