On August 27, 2026, Moonwell DeFi suffered an exploit that resulted in losses estimated between $8.7 million.

An attacker manipulated the price of MAMO tokens by pushing it from around $0.01 to a high of $0.43, which allowed them to borrow substantial amounts of more liquid assets such as cbBTC, USDC, wstETH, and ETH on Moonwell's protocol.

The attack vector did not involve a direct breach of Moonwell's smart contracts but rather exploited thin liquidity in the MAMO market and the protocol's reliance on price oracles that could be influenced by trading activity.
