Morgan County Data Center Moratorium Unenforceable, Company Moves Forward
A proposed data center in Morgan County is moving forward despite a one-year moratorium approved by the county commission.
The company behind the project, a bitcoin mining operation, had sought rights of way from residents to install utility poles but is now exploring an underground route for electrical lines.
Morgan County Attorney David Langston said the moratorium has no enforcement mechanism and that commissioners knew this when they approved it.
'This was done as a measure to support the community,' he said. 'This was done by the commission in an effort to let the community know that they back them and that they support them.'
