MORPHO Liquidations Soar to $36.4M as Anonymous Trader Spikes ReUSD Yield
A large trade in Yield Token (YT) reUSD by an anonymous wallet address led to a surge in expected annualized yield, causing a cascade of liquidations on the decentralized lending protocol MORPHO.
The anonymous address repeatedly purchased YT reUSD, pushing its expected annualized yield from around 11% to over 20%. Shortly after, it quickly sold its position, triggering liquidations across PT reUSD loop positions.
A total of $36.39 million in liquidations occurred on MORPHO as a result of this event, according to blockchain security firm PeckShieldAlert on X.
The incident highlights the risks associated with leveraged yield trading in decentralized finance (DeFi), which can lead to sudden and large-scale liquidations when yield expectations shift rapidly. For users, it underscores the importance of understanding the mechanics of yield tokens and the potential for sharp market movements.
