Moscow Exchange to Launch Cryptocurrency Depository Amid Growing Competition
The Moscow Exchange is preparing to launch its own cryptocurrency depository by the end of 2026, according to recent announcements. The new service will be used for accounting and supporting operations with digital currencies, and it will operate independently from the existing exchange infrastructure or National Settlement Depository.
The depository will treat cryptocurrencies as digital assets, rather than bank deposits, and will focus on recording ownership, data storage, and access to operations. This approach is different from traditional wallet storage, which prioritizes asset management and control.
The Moscow Exchange's move comes amid growing interest in regulated crypto services. Several major financial groups, including Sberbank, VTB, T-Bank, and Alfa-Bank, have announced plans to launch their own digital depositories by the end of 2026. These new services aim to increase competition and push participants toward more convenient offerings.
