Most New Cryptocurrencies Fail to Beat Launch Prices
The majority of high-value cryptocurrencies launched since 2024 are now trading below their launch prices. According to analytics firm CryptoRank, only 7% of major tokens have managed to beat their initial value.
CryptoRank tracked 113 coins with a market capitalization above $100 million as of July 21. The median return for these projects was -95.7%, indicating that most are now worth less than they were at launch.
However, there are eight exceptions to this rule. HYPE, ONDO, EVA, and NIGHT have all seen significant gains since their token generation events (TGE). Hyperliquid's HYPE was up 1,519% from its launch price at the time of the survey's publication on July 21st.
The main causes of major drawdowns in these projects were sell-offs, thin liquidity, and regulatory uncertainty. Additionally, some projects have been affected by exploits and other factors over the past two years.
