The Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) in Shah Alam conducted an integrated operation with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to detect and seize Bitcoin mining equipment from four premises in Bukit Beruntung without permission or valid licenses.

The operation was carried out on August 25 after detecting unusually high electricity consumption at several premises, which raised concerns about potential disruptions to electricity supply and risks of damage to electrical infrastructure.

'Inspections found that four premises in the Kasturi, Trompet, and Jenjarum commercial areas were carrying out Bitcoin mining activities without permission or valid licenses,' MPHS stated in a Facebook post.

The seized equipment was taken in accordance with applicable laws and enforcement procedures. The local authority emphasized that any activity involving large-scale electricity consumption must comply with regulations, including licensing requirements, business registration, and technical electricity supply conditions.
