MSTR Reports $8.2B Loss as Bitcoin Holdings Rise
Strategy Inc., the company behind the MSTR ticker, reported an $8.2 billion net loss in its second-quarter earnings report.
The majority of this loss came from a $8.32 billion fair-value decline on its Bitcoin holdings, which remained unrealized and reflected lower market prices rather than completed sales.
Despite this significant loss, Strategy expanded its Bitcoin holdings by 11% during the quarter, reaching about 846,000 BTC before reducing it to 843,775 BTC in its filing.
The company also paused Bitcoin purchases for five weeks as it focused on building its U.S. dollar reserve, which reached $3.75 billion and could cover preferred dividends and interest payments for two years, according to Chief Financial Officer Andrew Kang.
