MSTR Soars 49% as Bitcoin Rally Boosts Michael Saylor's Strategy
Michael Saylor's Strategy MSTRUSD stock has experienced a significant surge in recent weeks, rising by nearly 49% over the past week alone. This brings the total gain to 71%, with the stock climbing from around $82 to its current price of $140.
The rally is largely attributed to the Bitcoin recovery, which has seen the cryptocurrency rebound from the $60,000 range to above $80,650. As one of the biggest Bitcoin proxy stocks, MSTR's value is highly sensitive to changes in BTC prices. In fact, a $1,000 move in BTC can change the value of Strategy's holdings by approximately $840 million.
Strategy's large BTC holdings have also turned earlier paper losses into billions of unrealized gains. The company held 840,447 BTC at an average cost of $75,385 per Bitcoin. When BTC fell to the low-$60,000 range, Strategy faced an estimated $9.5 billion paper loss. However, after Bitcoin moved above $80,000, that position turned into an estimated $4.2 billion to $4.7 billion unrealized profit.
The company has also raised $2.01 billion by selling 18.26 million MSTR shares through its ATM program. Instead of using all the money to buy more Bitcoin, Strategy placed around $1.59 billion into a new USD cash pool and spent $136.4 million to buy back 1.43 million STRC preferred shares.
As for future predictions, Michael Saylor has highlighted Strategy's preferred securities and their strong yields. If Bitcoin climbs to $500,000, some analysts believe MSTR could reach $1,000.
