MSTR Stock Falters Amid Share Dilution Concerns
Strategy (NASDAQ: MSTR) stock has seen a significant increase of 30% in August 2026, rising from $94 to $127 by market close on August 28. This surge can be attributed to two main factors: the recovery of Bitcoin (BTC) prices and an increase in Strategy's USD reserves. Analyst Jeff Dorman notes that despite these positive developments, the company's ongoing stock sales are diluting its value and weakening its thesis as a leveraged Bitcoin play.
Dorman warns that due to this share dilution, Strategy's market-to-net-asset value (mNAV) will remain stuck at 1, potentially never achieving a significant premium again. This lack of growth makes MSTR a 'boring' stock to purchase, with Dorman stating that owning MSTR provides at most 20% more upside than owning BTC, assuming a constant mNAV and a doubling of BTC prices.
However, despite this outlook, Dorman has covered all his short positions on the MSTR stock after its recent improved outlook. The company's cash reserves have increased, which may have contributed to the closure of these short positions, according to Peter Schiff, who suggested that traders are being forced to purchase due to this.
