MSTR Surges as Bitcoin Breaks Out of Six-Week Range
MicroStrategy's stock surged 7.8% as Bitcoin broke out of a six-week trading range, climbing above $71,000 for the first time since June. The cryptocurrency reached $71,880 on multiple exchanges, wiping out approximately $3 billion in short positions.
The sharp recovery in crypto-linked equities was driven by institutional inflows and short liquidations, which added nearly $190 billion to the overall crypto market capitalization in a single day.
MicroStrategy's stock performance closely tracks Bitcoin movements due to its significant holdings of the cryptocurrency. The company holds approximately 840,447 Bitcoin on its balance sheet, valued at billions of dollars.
Analysts have pointed to the tight correlation between MSTR and BTC as both an opportunity and a risk. Bernstein maintained a $450 price target for MSTR with a 226% upside case, contingent on Bitcoin's continued strength.
