Multicoin Exits Forward Industries as Solana Treasury Company Faces Turmoil
Solana's largest treasury company, Forward Industries, is facing turmoil after its key investor, Multicoin Capital, unexpectedly exited its stake in the firm. According to documents disclosed by the U.S. SEC, Multicoin formally exited its position on May 8, just eight months after launching a $1.65 billion capital raise with Galaxy Digital and Jump Crypto as major investors.
As one of the most prominent institutional backers of Solana before its market cap climbed to approximately $44 billion, Multicoin's exit has become a focal point in the market. The firm's aggressive early bets on Solana made this departure all the more surprising, especially given Kyle Samani's continued involvement with Forward as chairman.
Despite Multicoin's exit, Forward remains committed to its Solana strategy. In Q3 fiscal 2026, the company added approximately $11 million in cash and over 7.8 million SOL equivalents to its treasury holdings. However, the decline in SOL's price weighed on the portfolio, with Forward recording a net loss of $69 million in the quarter.
Forward is no longer solely relying on accumulating SOL for returns. Chief Investment Officer Ryan Navi stated that the company is building diversified revenue streams and evaluating various acquisition targets to expand its treasury assets and strengthen its influence within the Solana ecosystem.
