Murfreesboro Dismantles Bitcoin ATMs Following Tennessee's Cryptocurrency Kiosk Ban
The Murfreesboro Police Department in Tennessee has started to dismantle Bitcoin ATMs after the state banned cryptocurrency kiosks last month. The ban was implemented to combat cryptocurrency scams, which have been on the rise.
In just six months prior to the ban, victims in Murfreesboro lost nearly $4.1 million due to cryptocurrency scams. MPD Detective Thomas Massey stated that 'it's really decreased the amount of scams we've seen involving cryptocurrency.'
The police department visited 30 businesses that operated Bitcoin ATMs and found most were following the new law, while others still had machines inside waiting to be picked up.
